the reviews for this were great. i think i'll try it!

UPDATE: made this for the firt night of Hanukkah - it was very easy and came out great (if i do say so, myself!). My husband couldn't stop complimenting it (partly because it's surprising when I make something edible, and partly because he was shocked that his shiksa wife was the one who made this! Also - learning from the comments on Allrecipes' site, I reduced the sugar recommended by about 20%. If you haven't used the allrecipes site before - check it out - it's very cool that you can put in different batch sizes and it automatically calculates the new ingredient amounts needed.

from the WS catalogue: "According to tradition, one cracker decorates each place setting at the Christmas table. At the beginning of the meal, diners cross their arms holding their own and aa neighbor's cracker by the ends, one in each hand. Everyone pulls at once - and the crackers break apart with a loud pop, releasing trinkets, jokes and paper party hats (which are often worn throughout the feast)."

Alex "discovered" and fell in love with these in Paris. We should order these and make them over break. She would be so surprised that we could make these at home :)
